My name is Herne the hunter
I roam the forest round
A great Stag to slaughter
I tried to bring him down

He ran me through the heart
Pinned me to the ground
The devil appeared before me
To hell I was bound

I pleaded for my life
Not to die in pain
To once more see my wife
He offered this bargain

You may roam the forest
But you must roam the night
Not your life before
You will never see the light

But for this favour
You must will wear the deer’s crown
You must spend the night
Walking without sound

From that moment forth
I wandered through the night
With head crowned with antler
I was a fearsome sight

I went to my home
Seeking my dearest one
Her screams pieced the night
I realised I was alone

So if you roam the forest
On a misty Eve
The crack of a twig
There’s something in the trees

You won’t believe your eyes
You’ll think that your insane
A beastly vision
Standing in the rain

If you walk in the forest
Of Windsor to the east
You may see me hiding
Neither man nor beast
